Sloths' Home range
This project investigated how the endangered maned three-toed sloth navigates fragmented landscapes in Brazil's Atlantic Forest. Bridging intensive fieldwork with spatial ecology, I tracked seven radio-collared individuals for over a year across a mosaic of native forest, secondary growth, and shaded cocoa plantations, evaluating habitat selection across four distinct spatial scales. Our results revealed that while sloths exhibit highly varied home range sizes and acute selectivity at smaller scales, they only avoid open areas at larger scales—offering critical insights for targeted conservation planning.
