This project, conducted as part of a large collaborative NSF initiative in Brazil, investigated how functional avian traits influence seed dispersal and seed rain dynamics. By analyzing empirical bird field observations, I estimated fine-scale movement parameters to parameterize a series of spatial simulations. These models allowed us to isolate and evaluate the specific effects of bird traits—such as body mass and dietary specialization—on the spatial distribution and density of the resulting seed rain. By bridging behavioral field data with generative simulation modeling, this work advances our understanding of how birds could affect forest regeneration and ecosystem resilience across fragmented landscapes.
