Amphibians' seasonal migration
This project utilized a simulation-modeling framework to quantify how "habitat split"—the spatial separation of natural terrestrial habitats and aquatic breeding sites due to deforestation—drives amphibian declines in Brazil. By integrating available field data and natural history information, I developed Individual-Based Models (IBMs) that simulate seasonal breeding migrations and tradeoffs under varying levels of habitat split. The IBM results perfectly aligned with empirical field data, demonstrating a disproportionate decline in aquatic-breeding species compared to non-migratory, terrestrial-breeding amphibians.
